  • November 24, 2010 - Clients of the M. E. Cox Center for Elderly Daycare in Virginia Beach, Va. sing Christmas Carols during their activities on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. The M. E. Cox Center, which has been open for 35 years, was started by a group of citizens who noticed a part of the senior population in Virginia Beach that could no longer go to the local senior center but were not yet in need of the constant care of a nursing home. The center is one of approximately 5000 facilities in the United States that offer adult day care, according to the Executive Director Sharon Goumas, who cited funding as the number one challenge to starting and maintaining such a facility.
